Ochir is my brother. He is eight years old and I am ten. We always look forward to the first big snow of the year. We watch it out the window and hope we have a snow day from school the next day. Mom makes hot chocolate for us and we bake cookies. It is always something special when we have the first snow. Mom likes to make vegetable soup for us to eat. She says it helps to keep us warm when we play in the snow. Ochir and I went outside early this morning. We bundled up so we could stay warm. The first thing we did was to make snow angels. Then, we slid down the hill on boxes with our neighbors. Finally, we spent the whole afternoon making our first snowman of the year. He is right out there in our front yard. Mr. Batbold is our neighbor across the street. He gave us an old black hat for the snowman to wear. Mom gave us a yellow scarf to put around the snowman’s neck. We used sticks from the yard to make the arms. Mom gave us coal for the snowman’s eyes and mouth and a carrot for his nose. Mom always takes our picture with the snowman. Ochir is fun to play with when it snows. He is a good brother most of the time.

Telmen loved third grade. He had the best time each day in Mrs. Mendee's room. First, they did reading each morning. He loved that class. They read great stories out of their reading books. Some of them were plays and they all took turns acting out the story. They could work in their workbooks. That was fun, too. But, there was one big problem in third grade. They had to MULTIPLY in Maths!
Telmen did not want to spend time each day studying the multiplication facts. They said the multiplication facts in class. His parents called out multiplication facts at home. This was NO fun for him. He liked to add and subtract. He just hated learning the multiplication facts. Then, one morning Mrs. Mendee came into the classroom. She was holding a tape recorder, microphone, and a headset. She told Telmen that he was in charge of the lesson that day. Everyone was going to be recording the multiplication facts. Telmen loved this! It was just like being a star holding that microphone. He held it out so everyone could be heard. Mrs. Mendee told him to make sure he told the class to go home and study because they would record the lesson again the next day. Telmen went home and learned each and every fact. He wanted to make sure he could answer each one the next day. Multiplication was great Fun!

Misheel was visiting Aunt Zulaa at her house at the beach. It was a beautiful summer day. Misheel had built a giant sand castle that morning. Her aunt took pictures of the castle to send to Misheel’s parents. It was a great big sand castle. Later that morning, Misheel and her aunt went swimming in the ocean. It was fun to jump with the waves. Then, they went in the house and ate sandwiches and strawberries for lunch.
Misheel wanted to play on the beach that afternoon. Her Aunt told her it was too hot to go outside without a hat on. Misheel didn’t have a hat. Her Aunt told her not to worry, she could wear one of hers. she tried on four hats. The pink one was really pretty, but it had a big bow in the back that was too long for Misheel. The green hat was too fancy for her. She did not like that hat at all. The blue hat was nice, but it had an ugly bird on it. Then, she saw a big brown hat with a yellow ribbon on it. That hat was made of straw. It was a perfect hat for the beach. It was too big for her’s head but she didn’t care. It was a great hat.
